She was born in Illinois of parents who were both born in Russia and who both spoke Yiddish as native speakers. Even as a 4.5 year old, Dorothy is not given any credit for speaking English. She lives with her parents, Harry and Sarah, and two siblings: Sylvia and Seymour Levenberg. The family lives at 1458 12th Street, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. [LeH 02.]
In the 1930 U. S. Federal Census, Dorothy Levenberg is a 14 year old, white, single female. She was born in Illinois of parents who were both born in Russia in spite of the record indicating that the father was born in Illinois. Dorothy is in school and reads, writes, and speaks English. She has no employ outside the home. Dorothy lives with her mother, Sarah, and two siblings: Seymour and Sylvia Levenberg. The family lives at 553 North Flores in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles County, California. [LS 01.]
In the 1940 U. S. Federal Census, Dorothy Levenberg is a 24 year old, white, single female. She is a border with the Frank Kramer family in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. She is not in school or college, but has finished four years of high school. She is living in the same place in which she lived in 1935, which is not on a farm. Her occupation is that of stenographer for which her income is $1,000. She worked 48 hours in the we prior to the census. During 1939 she worked 52 weeks. Dorothy L. Levenberg Curryer, 29, 7 months, 2 days, the second wife of Alanson M. Curryer, Jr. was killed in an automobile accident, on 5 April, 1945, near Whitewater, Riverside County, California. She was born in Chicago, Il, of Harry and Sarah Levenberg, both of whom were born in Russia. Dorothy was a stenographer with the U. S. Army at March Field, a U. S. Army Air Force Base at the time.
