    •        In the 1910 U. S. Federal Census, Phillip Zenker is a 36 year old, white, married male. He has been married for 12 years to Amelia Emily Wacker. During that time, they have produced six children, all of whom are living. Phillip was born in Russia of parents who also were both born in Russia, all of whom speak German. He is a farmer who is involved in farm work. He is working on his own account; he was not out of work on April 15, 1910 and was not out of work in 1909. He speaks, reads, and writes English. He has not attended school since Sept. 1, 1909. He owns his farm through mortgage. He is not a survivor of the Union or Confederate Army or Navy. Phillip is neither blind nor dumb. He lives with his wife, Amelia, and six children: Elizabeth, August, Henry, Barbara, Katie, Fredrick. The family lives in Huffman Township, McPherson County, South Dakota. [PZ 01.]

             In the 1920 U. S. Federal Census, Phillip Zenker is a 45 year old, white, married male. He was born in Russia of parents who were both born in Russia; all spoke German as a native language. He is married to Amelie Emily Wacker Zenker. He owns his own farm by means of mortgage. He immigrated to the U. S. in 1891 and was naturalized in 1892. He reads, writes, and speaks English. He is a farmer involved in General Farming and is an employer. He lives with his wife, Amelia, and seven children: August, Henry, Barbara, Katie, Fred, Elvina, and Julius. Living with the family is a hired man, Julius. The family lives in Hoffman Township, McPherson County, South Dakota. [PZ 03.]
             In the 1930 U. S. Federal Census, Phillip Zenker is a 56 year old, white, married male. He is married to Amelia Emily Wacker Zenker. He married when he was 24 years old. According to this census, he was born in Russia of parents who were born in Germany (father) and Russia (mother. He own his own home. The family lives on a farm. His native language was German, but he speaks, reads, and writes English. He immigrated to the United States in 1891 and is a naturalized citizen. His occupation is that of farmer in the field of general farming. He is an employer and was actually at work at the time of the census. He is not a veteran of any U. S. Military Forces. He lives with his wife, Amelia, and three of his children: Fred, Alvina, and Julius. Another son, Henry, with whom he is also living is married; Henry's wife, Lenora Steiger Zenker, also lives with the family. Fred Golz, a boarder and farm worker, fills out the family. All live in Hoffman Township, McPherson County, South Dakota. [PZ 05.]
             In the 1940 U. S. Federal Census, Phillip Zenker is a 65 year old, white, widowed, male. Amelia has passed on. Phillip was born in Russia. He owns his farm, which is valued at $985. He has not attended school since 1 March 1940. He is a naturalized citizen; he has lived in the same house since 1935. He is at work on his own private enterprise and has worked 48 hours in the week prior to the census. He is a farmer, working in the farming industry. He employs people to work for him. In fact, living with him is Christian G. Hattick, who is an employee. During 1939, he worked 52 full-time weeks. And, he received income of more than $50 from source other than wages and salary during 1939. He lives on his farm with Christian G. Hattick, which is in Hoffman Township, McPherson County, South Dakota. [PZ 07.]
             In 1941, Phillip married Eva Mertz, as his second wife.
             Note: On the Death Certificate, the witness is a possible third wife, Christina Zenker. I have tried to find information about this person, but have found nothing. [DLL.]
