- In the 1850 U. S. Federal Census, Polly Lakin is a six year old, white female. She was born in Illinois of parents who were born in Massachusetts (father) and Pennsylvania (mother). She lives with her parents (Elisha and Cynthia) in Pampas Township, DeKalb County, Illinois, and four sister and two brothers: Martha, Vincent, Elizabeth, Esther, Cynthia, and Charles. She is in school. [EL 08.]
In the 1860 U. S. Federal Census, Polly Lakin is a 15 year old female. She was born in Illinois of parents who were born in Massachusetts (father) and Pennsylvania (Cynthia). I believe since she was born in Illinois from whence came the Lakin family, that Cynthia Ainsley is her mother. She has been attending school. She lives in Clear Lake Township, Hamilton County, with her father (Elisha), her step-mother (Caroline), four siblings (Cynthia, Charles, Edwin, Fanny - the latter two could be children of Caroline), and William Witke, a laborer born in New York State.
